Who is this Fool? What is he doing? Where is he going? And what’s the animal companion trying to tell him? Let’s see what tarot can tell us.
The Fool Tarot Card – First Impressions
The Fool heads straight along to the right, bag over shoulder and walking stick in hand. His eyes and body point in the same direction. His expression is calm, tranquil and at peace. The blue ground behind him ends just where his right foot steps forward. Before him the ground changes – lower, different and unknown. A small cat-like creature tries to get his attention by pawing on his right leg. The Fool pays no mind whatsoever.
The Fool resists clear compartmentalization. This wonderfully powerful and enigmatic personality cannot be defined.
Tarot Deck Card Meaning – The Fool
With five cards, we’ll seek the the tarot’s insight. The middle row of three cards, read right to left, will answer, Who am I? The top card will give an idea of the highest expression, and the bottom card, unclear or conflicted expression.
Who is The Fool?
(Cards 1, 2, 3) It was quite a job to shuffle the cards for this reading! They were jumping left and right, and even falling to the ground. The Fool resists clear compartmentalization and cannot be defined. Please keep this in mind or we’ll have no peace from the Fool. This reading is offered as one aspect only of this wonderfully powerful and enigmatic personality.
Path after path, journey after journey is the story of the Fool. He walks every way and yet is always where he started, and at every destination. His journey is complete, perfect and beautiful. (eight of cups (r))
In everywhere he travels, people surround him. He’s a true friend. Yet, no matter how close his friends get to him, a boundary remains. He is here with you, always leaving and always apart. If you feel this to be abandonment, you misunderstand the nature of who he is. (three of cups (r))
No matter how long the Fool’s journey has continued so far, it still must continue. What is the work that he has done? What is the work that he still must do? These are mysteries beyond what can be seen in this reading, anyway. What is sure is that the work the Fool has done has been perfect. It is called blessed by the visible and the invisible, the Sun and the Moon. All that he does is guided and protected. It will stand. (seven of coins)
Highest Expression
(Card 4) When the Fool appears, expect a quiet but definite change in what seems to be settled and decided. A relationship in balance may become anything but. You may feel isolated, separate or alone. Despite appearances, all is to reveal true clarity and ultimate strength. (three of swords)
Conflicted Expression
(Card 5) When the Fool is resisted or troubled, all gentleness goes by the wayside. Faster and faster, spinning wildly and perhaps out of control, all that has been put together is brought to destruction. Like a Scorpion accidentally stinging itself to death in the throes of passionate aggression, the Fool resisted cannot be squelched. The final result will be peaceful and to the good – though that particular journey may not be without undesirable side-effects. (death – the unnamed arcana)
