The Tarot of the Master tarot deck is a recreation of a work created by Giovanni Vacchetta around 1893. It is one of the few pre-Rider Waite Smith tarot decks that has “story images” for the numbered pip cards. This Lo Scarebeo reproduction is attractively colored with a green border that complements the cards.
This particular deck was acquired in trade from a colleague who became totally enamored with the Il Meneghello version of this deck and felt badly about no longer using this one. (Keep your eyes open for a future interview with the Il Meneghello Vachetta!) I appreciate the fact that she was willing to let it go.
The following tarot deck interview was done using FireRaven’s spread described in the Interview with the Il Meneghello Soprafino post.
Interviewing the Lo Scarabeo Tarot of the Master
1. Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?
All of my parts work harmoniously together. The story-readings that I give are balanced and complete.
2. What are your strengths as a tarot deck?
I’m powerful and complex, yet with a sense of playfulness and fun. If clients coming to a reading are tied in knots, I can help them see things as they are and start to unwind.
3. What are your limits as a tarot deck?
My language and focus is unique. I must be approached on my own terms for my meanings to be easily discerned.
4. What do you bring to the table?
For all of my elegance, there is a childlike innocence and purity in my communications. I can restore these qualities to your readings and to your life.
5. How can we best learn from and collaborate with you?
Seek the common threads in your readings. Look beneath the surface, and especially past apparent discrepancies to the underlying patterns. In so doing you will communicate what is needed by your client.
6. What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?
Through our work you can realize a relaxed connection with your inner light, and how to embody it in your everyday life.
How can readers get copies of the Tarot of the Master?
You are in luck with this deck, as it is in print and readily available.

Nice spread and interview! I have both LS and IM versions and sorry I am keeping them both:-)
Hi Helen,
Thanks for your comment! I know what you mean, sometimes we just need to keep both decks

I think this would really be an awesome class for the RS11! Why don’t you contact the Tarot School to offer this class as a worshop, if you want a smaller group. A Master Class about the many ways one can use the reversals would be interesting though!
I say go for it! I will do my best to go to the RS11, I really, really want to go again!
I missed many deacks from Thursday night, unfortunately
Hi Marina,
The Tarot School will only be accepting applications for workshops starting in a few months. They want to get the RS11 website completed first. LOL – Master Class is a little too high for me! Hands-on workshop would be better for people.
In regard to the decks – there are always more tarot decks!!! If you want one, I’m sure there will be one available for you at an affordable price from someone somewhere.

Another great interview! You know, I’ve been wondering about this deck for a while… a long time ago I saw it for sale here, and thought about getting it, but wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. After you reading, I think I would. It looks very classic!
Let me ask you something – do you read the reversed cards with a different meanings or do you use reversal simply to change the direction of the cars (ie. where the card is looking). I ask this because in Playing Cards we don’t use reversal, but when a card comes upside down it changes the card’s direction, which may be very relevant in a reading.
Thanks

Hi Marina,
Yes, it is very classic. A beautiful deck. Both the original owner and myself loved it only a little less than the Il Meneghello edition. I actually brought this one to RS10 and traded it on Thursday night. Too bad you weren’t able to get it.
Reversals work very well with historical decks like this one. Mary Greer outlined a handful of different ways to work with reversals in her book on the subject, which is good reading. In my readings, I do use reversals for all except for the pips which are exactly the same in both directions (e.g. 5 of Wands). The meaning of the reversal is based on the surrounding cards and the base essence of the card itself. This all sounds more complicated than it is. In practice, the meaning just jumps out.
Perhaps that would be a good class to give at RS 11. What do you think?
