More than a few tarot readers are also cat lovers. You may be one of these. If so, this interview of the Tarot of the Cat People is for you.

Tarot of the Cat People First Impressions

The Tarot of the Cat People was published in 1985 by US Games. It’s an attractive and engaging deck that speaks with a clear voice. Though the card images do not interact with each other, the deck remains readable. The cards shuffle easily and handle in the same way as other US Games decks from this period. Oh, did I mention that the backs are cute?

You can learn about FireRaven’s new deck spread in the Interview with the Il Meneghello Soprafino post.

1. Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?

I am the spirit of this deck, the youthful ruler of the cat people. Like the traditional image of the tarot fool I bound off to the future with my trusty feline friends. I’m girded with jewels and cards of wisdom. Despite this seeming recklessness, my feet are well rooted. My intent is pure.

2. What are your strengths as a tarot deck?

If you love the thought of a cat on the prowl, you’ll be very happy with me as your deck. I am always alert, completely focused and ready to go wherever our joint attention leads us.

Some say that cats cannot be herded. Perhaps so. Yet with my magic, and with the blessing of the great Cat Spirit, feline energy will embue clarity and motion to our readings.

3. What are your limits as a tarot deck?

There’s time for work, and always time for play. Sometimes I will lead you down my own paths for my own reasons. Come now with me and play. You know you need it.

4. What are you here to teach us?

Do I need to be verbally explicit with you?  How dull. Please use some intuition. That is the feline way. Stare into my eyes. That spinning you are feeling is you. Without going anywhere you are changed and always will be.

Find the center in yourself that never moves. You will begin to understand the secret of the cat.

5. How can we best learn from and collaborate with you?

Quiet your mind enough such that you could hear the sound of a cat’s paw walking on stone. From this place, direct your questions to me. You will learn. You will know.

6. What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?

Subjects which have been hard for you to read with your primary decks can be made understandable through our work.

Last Words

Come into my lair. Are you read for an adventure? Who knows what you will discover…

    Alec,
I love this spread! I have been using it for a few years now. It is used whenever I purchase a new deck. I have found that the decks will tell me how they want to be used (clients, study, meditation) and for who (clients; sometimes I am only to use the deck).
I do like the addition of the “last words” position. I think I will try that out my next deck purchase.
Love keeping the reading in the first person, by the way.

I was never a huge fan of cat-decks, but this one is very pretty. It shows people WITH cats, not anthropomorphized cats (which I don’t like much). And it seems to be a very adventurous deck indeed :)

Alec, you have cats… what do your cats think of the deck? Have you tried showing it to them or reading for them? I think it’d be fun! If there was a Dog People tarot I’d see if my dog likes it or not :P . Curiously enough, she likes my Universal Waite…

      Hi Marina,
Lucky and Sunny are flamboyantly unimpressed by this (or any) tarot deck. When giving them readings they sit placidly and listen – but do nothing to change their behavior. What can you do? Cats will be cats.
      Alec
