Rohrig Tarot Interview

This Rohrig tarot is one odd deck. For one thing, the cards are big at 3.9 inches by 6.4 inches. They are slick too, which makes even hand over hand shuffling difficult. You might wonder, “why bother?” Here’s why. The cards are skillfully drawn and fit together as a complete whole. Whether you find the modern look comforting or the images clashing will depend on your own personal artistic preferences. For me the easiest way to conduct this tarot interview was to treat the cards as if they were not tarot and to read the Carl Rohrig deck as an oracle.

1. Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?

Hello! Thanks for interviewing me. You can think of me as an explorer. I blaze paths underground through the power of my vision. I’m not afraid to work. When I work I come not by myself alone, but with a team of ancients. (Prince of Coins over 8 of Coins)

2. What are your strengths as a tarot deck?

All power is within me. This includes the wisdom of age and energy of youth, masculine and feminine, receptive and driving, science and art, animal, vegetable and mineral. Any area of experience may be accessed through my images. (Fool)

3. What are your limits as a tarot deck?

I see myself as the king of tarot decks, and care little for what’s gone before or come since my creation. I look to my own pleasure. If you want to read with me, do it my way or not at all. I really don’t care. (Strength, reversed)

4. What do you bring to the table?

No ground is so barren that beauty cannot be seen. I will show you new ways to look and new ways to see. Not only will you observe what is in your readings – you and those who come to you will be able to perceive and avoid stumbling stones. (7 of Cups)

Throw off all burdens and baggage. Open your eyes to the visions I will show you. (Judgement)
