What can Ciro Marchetti’s Oracle of Visions tell us about Readers Studio 2012? Secrets will be revealed. A balancing will happen. The future of tarot is here. Read on!
Ciro Marchetti & the Oracle of Visions
If we all had to do tarot in the same way, would it still be as exciting? Would we even want that?
One of the things about reading with the Marseille Tarot in the US is that it puts you in a distinct category of oddballs. So, if tarot is itself a little out of the mainstream, what do we call people who are outside of the mainstream of the mainstream? You may want to keep this in the back of your mind as you observe the growing energy pressing towards an international tarot consolidation.
Ciro Marchetti released the first copies of the Oracle of Visions at Readers Studio 2011. Meeting Ciro in person was quite a pleasure. Prior to RS11 we had interacted briefly on Aeclectic Forum, where he impressed me with his thoughtfulness and integrity. These qualities are clearly visible in the Oracle of Visions.
Who needs an Oracle when we have Tarot?
An Amazon reviewer complains about a different oracle deck saying, “This is not tarot at all. There are no suits. It doesn’t follow the established order.” Of course it doesn’t follow the order of tarot. It’s not a tarot deck!
One of the wonderful things Ciro has done with this oracle is to create a tool which quickly brings hidden material to the surface. The Oracle of Visions has its own internal consistency that is not dependent of the tarot deck you’re used to.
The Oracle of Visions is important not because it’s tarot, but because it has power.
Power Objects
Power objects have a quality intrinsic to themselves. They bring something out in the people who use them. When Ciro showed me the Oracle of Visions at Readers Studio 2011, I was captivated, enthralled, and immediately saw its value. The Oracle of Visions is a tool to powerfully activate your tarot readings in a new way. See Technology and Tarot Cards. (to be published later this week.)
How to use the Oracle of Visions
A simple way to use the Oracle of Visions in your readings is to use it as a source for significators. This will work no matter what your personal reading style may be.
I am now using these cards in this way for both in-person and phone readings. In-person, the client looks through the Oracle and picks the first card that appeals to them. On the phone I draw a card on their behalf. A quick intuitive interpretation is made to set the tone for the tarot session that follows.
Other options
The drawn card could be placed in an envelope and opened at the end of the reading to create a summary. Or, the client could be asked at the start of the reading to give their first impression of the card. This would then be used by the reader as a focus or note to touch upon where appropriate in the session.
Ciro describes a number of spreads using only the Oracle of Visions in the included book.
And now…
The Oracle of Visions describes Readers Studio 2012
The jester is unclothed. At Readers Studio 2012, secrets will come out. People hidden will be revealed.
The card depicts an attractive man. The speakers, if male, will be persuasive and possibly charismatic. Regardless of gender, we can expect clarity, direction and possibly forcefulness. Challenges may be given. It will not be a Readers Studio of passivity, but one where attention and engagement is the order of the day.
Wald Amberstone asks, “Where is the future of tarot?” According to the Oracle of Visions, the future of tarot may well begin with Readers Studio 2012.
The character in card 17 is masked. We won’t see everything. What’s happening is going on apart from what we see on stage. What’s developing is greater than the speakers’ intentions. The character is unclothed. More will be revealed as RS12 than may be intended.
The masks are flowing out of the hands. There seems to be a need to hold back and possibly hide from others the intensity of what’s happening. At Victorian fancy dress balls the nobility can say things to one another en maske that decorum would prevent at other times.
The symbol of Libra at the bottom of the image suggests justice and fairness. There will be healing that comes through speech. People who have been excluded may be included. It may be that people who were overly included may be brought to a different balance. Time will reveal what this might mean.
The suggestion of a stage underscores that something significant will be revealed. Perhaps we could call the Readers Studio 2012 the art of presentation. We shall see!
Purchasing the Oracle of Visions
If you’re looking to broaden your tarot reading skills and capacity, purchase this deck. It is significant, and in no way a repetition of other things available. It is explicitly not another Rider-Waite-Smith clone. Thank goodness.
I ordered the Oracle of Visions directly from Ciro and received it within a week. It was packaged well and sent priority mail. Inside is a shrink wrapped 52 card oracle and fancy book describing each of the images. The cards have a beautiful gold edging. The card stock is sturdy. There is also a CD with puzzles, avatars, wallpaper, screen savers and thoughts and notes booklet.
Purchase Ciro Marchetti’s Oracle of Visions.
May your readings for clients be transformative and clear. May your readings for yourself be a balm and comfort to your soul.

We all need someone we can trust.

Loved this reading, Alec. All the main presenters at RS12 are male, by the way. It’s a very evocative card, particularly being about Libra. Balance may come, but not without debate, which Libra excels at.
I’ll leave you with this thought: The emperor has no clothes, but he certainly has balls.
Thank you for a great introduction to this marvelous deck!
Well from that reading it appears as if I need to make sure I get to Readers Studio 2012!
I’m loving this Oracle deck and have it on my “to buy” list.
We shall see. I hope to be there at RS12, too.
