The Jungian Tarot is a specialty deck intended for those who practice – or wish to learn – archetypal meditation. It was originally published in 1980 by Robert Wang and was recently reissued. This is a deck I very much wanted to acquire and was happy to find at this year’s Readers Studio 2010.
Jungian Tarot First Readings
The Jungian Tarot is a sturdy deck with an attractive, single-direction back design. The deck was a little confusing for me to read with at first. There are no explicit numbers on the pips (number cards) or text labels on the majors. If you are an experienced reader with internalized meanings for each of the 78 tarot cards, you should be able to very quickly read with this deck. If not, the unique symbolism could lead you down a rabbit-hole. Those who trim their tarot decks will love this deck.
Falling into the cards
Years ago I spent an extended period of time undergoing John Fowles Magus like experiences initiated in part by tarot scrying meditations. Opening this deck brought back those memories in force. The Jungian Tarot is clearly a deck of power and should be treated with respect.
You can learn about FireRaven’s new deck spread in the Interview with the Il Meneghello Soprafino post.
Interviewing the Jungian Tarot
1. Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?
My devil is like Spock. My people are like mummies. My Sun wears a grim grin. I am connected with the tarot archetypes, who are pleased to work through me. I am a direct pathway without filters.
2. What are your strengths as a tarot deck?
I have the full power of the Moon within me, and am able to bring it forward for good or ill. I reverse illusions and bring closed material into consciousness. Ultimate security for this life and the life to come is available to those who ground themselves through working with me.
3. What are your limits as a tarot deck?
If you want to partake of my wisdom, you will need to work. There’s no getting around this. The better you know yourself, and the more willing you are to look into your shadow parts without flinching, the more that will be opened to you.
4. What are you here to teach us?
You will begin to see how much you are at war with yourself.
How much of your inner (and outer) treasure is held in check, unavailable as a result of your struggles? I can teach you how to align your life force.
5. How can we best learn from and collaborate with you?
Awaken your curiosity. Treat me as your special assistant, sent to relieve you. The battles of your life have already been fought. Believe that I will support you to your victory.
6. What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?
Your work with me will come easier as you assimilate the lessons learned on your path. If you come to me, over time your inner world burdens will be clarified and brought to light. You will then be able to work them, and to find relief for your soul.
