Recently I was delighted to find in the mailbox a hand-made Illuminated Tarot from Carol Herzer. This is a a very special deck. Though my primary focus these days is working with the Marseille, and especially the Flornoy Noblet tarot deck, this Illuminated Tarot calls out for respect.
It’s especially important to note that the cards are painted with luminescent and glitter paint. The arresting colors of these tarot cards do not reproduce well in photographs.
The following tarot deck interview was done using FireRaven’s spread described in the Interview with the Il Meneghello Soprafino post.
Interviewing the Illuminated Tarot
1. Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?
I am beautiful and unpredictable. I love to surprise and reveal.
2. What are your strengths as a tarot deck?
Open to your unconscious. I will facilitate the revealing of dark, hidden and unprocessed material of you and your clients.
3. What are your limits as a tarot deck?
I’ve been designed as a healing deck. I may be too soft for readings calling for exactitude and clear yes or no responses.
4. What are you here to teach us?
I am a rich, full and receptively powerful deck. Your skills will become fuller if you listen to me.
5. How can we best learn from and collaborate with you?
Take me seriously and use me regularly for readings. Treat me like an old friend and I will become one.
6. What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?
Your old limits and beliefs about yourself as a reader will be exploded and forever transformed. Your soul as a reader will be set free.
How can readers get copies of the Illuminated Tarot?
Each Illuminated Tarot is made to order. There are numerous options available. Contact Carol Herzer if you have questions about this deck.
If you have interest, I would encourage you to get in touch with Carol. This is a deck that you will love and treasure.
If you’ve used this deck before, or decide to purchase one, let us know in the comments below.
As always wish you well, Alec.

I have the pocket version and its wonderful, I carry it with me everywhere but there feels no loss in detail because of the size, well worth having!
Nicola, thanks for your comment. The pocket version sounds excellent!
Stop enabling me!!! ;oP This deck is really gorgeous. I was wondering – is your deck the pocket or the medium? It’s hard for me to tell seeing the image on the internet.
Also, I’m curious about position number 6 – is it just the Death card, or the Death + 9 of Cups that’s appears under it in the image? If it’s the second case, why did you draw two cards for this specific position?
This spread really seems to give the deck a “voice”, and the way you write it makes me feel like the deck is really talking! I think I may try it with one of my newest decks…
Hi Marina,
It’s the medium deck. I decided based on taking the measurements from her site (http://www.soul-guidance.com/tarotdecks/page_7.htm) and then comparing them with other decks from the collection. The pocket would likely also be very good – especially for people who enjoy mini decks.
Good catch – in the last position (6) was the 9 of cups. Death seemed so strange in this position that I pulled the 9 of cups to provide a little more information. This is something I rarely do, but felt it necessary in this case.
Lately I’m using tarot more and more to shed light on itself. This spread particularly is great for meeting new decks. Think you’ll like it. Just did one this morning on the Jungian Tarot. Stay tuned!
Alec
